Our Story

David Mottashed's passion for the oil industry began on an internship with the BP contracts and procurement division in Harlow, UK, during his studies for a business degree. This led to a successful application to the BP UK graduate training scheme where his 22 year career at BP began in exploration and production based in Aberdeen, UK, in the mid 1980s. The early years of his career saw rapid progression and exciting opportunities to travel and develop, factors that proved inspirational to his younger brother Jon.

Keenly interested in science and technology, Jon chose to study for a degree in chemical engineering with a determination to follow his brother into the oil industry.  This ultimately led him to join the Exxon (now ExxonMobil) UK graduate training scheme where he spent the early years of his career at Fawley Refinery, UK, as a process engineer before progressing into supply and logistics roles.

Andree also joined the Exxon UK graduate scheme at Fawley after graduating in chemical engineering. Like Jon's, her fast moving early career path included a number of process engineering and refinery supply roles. During this period Andree and Jon met and were married.

David's career with BP continued to progress at pace and took him and his family on assignments to Vietnam, Venezuela and the USA where he ultimately became chief procurement officer for all onshore USA exploration and production activities and subsequently for all offshore USA exploration and production activities based in Houston, Texas.

With his career also moving at high speed, Jon became interested in commercial roles within the industry and found a passion for crude oil trading after joining the ExxonMobil Europe trading function in London, UK. Andree continued her development within the refining optimisation function in London at this time. Following this, and after starting their family, both Andree and Jon were given the opportunity to work at the then ExxonMobil downstream headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, USA with Andree expanding her skill set through shipping optimisation roles and Jon continuing his development in a number of different markets and into more senior commercial roles.

David ultimately left BP to join BG Group in Reading, UK, where he continued his procurement leadership career. After a number of years he became a key player in the merger of the procurement functions of Shell and BG Group and then continued into senior global procurement roles in Shell based in London.

Within months of David's departure from BP, Jon was recruited into the BP Integrated Supply and Trading function in London as the lead North Sea physical crude oil trader providing an outstanding opportunity to progress his trading career. Jon played a pivotal role in the industry leading growth of the BP North Sea trading book through his period of stewardship before his promotion to the role of Book Lead for all Europe, West Africa and Middle East crude oil trading activities gave him full responsibility for all crude traders and their trading activity in the London office.

Recent years have seen David spend time working for the UK National Health Service during the pandemic, Jon starting a new career in consultancy and Andree taking a career break through the key years of her children's education. The opportunity to work together and provide high quality consulting services across the breadth and depth of our experience is an exciting prospect for all three of us.
